Our Window Cleaner of the Month for March

Enrico Gardoni

Enrico Gardoni from Italy is the son and nephew of cleaning specialists: one might say the trade is in his blood. As a young boy, he would accompany his father to clean windows. He was fascinated by this activity right from the start. The fun then turned serious: today, Enrico Gardoni runs his own company in the Italian Vezzano Ligure in La Spezia and still enjoys going to work each day. And the day starts early at 6 am: When the shops and bars open, most of the windows for the customers with a weekly subscription are already clean on the outside. Enrico Gardoni then continues with the interior before moving on to other orders in the afternoon. He usually relies on the window squeegee and Ninja Liquid from UNGER, but has also made plenty of use of the pure water system too.

“I was born in 1964, the same year that UNGER was founded. Could that be a sign?”

I like being a building cleaner because …

... I enjoy being outside, come rain or shine. I like having contact with so many different people. And I thrive on the daily challenge of whether I’ll manage to clean all the windows on my schedule by the evening.

I’m particularly fascinated by the profession because ...

... I thought it was great as a child when my dad would head out in the morning with his ladder and bucket, which was attached with just a hook. Back then, we just worked with rags or cloths and the fluffier they were, the better. We used chalk diluted in a normal bottle of water, which we applied to the glass with a sort of net. We then removed the chalk mix with a cotton cloth. We called the solution “Weissling” – it was neither easy to apply or remove. It was very weather-dependent. We had to apply a thinner layer of chalk solution if it was dry, and a thicker layer if it was wet. Otherwise you wouldn’t get the desired result.

You can tell someone is a cleaning professional by …

... the fact that they don’t see it as an obligation but work conscientiously instead. They understand their trade, work precisely and know when and how to use which cleaning methods and tools. A professional can provide competent advice to their customers and is satisfied with their own work.

My favourite UNGER product is …

... without doubt the ErgoTec window squeegee with the S-channel Plus. Channels and washer covers were also some of the first UNGER products that I used back in 1990. You might call it love at first sight.

UNGER products are my saviour when I ...

...need to work at heights. This is because with the UNGER HydroPower pure water cleaning system, I am able to get rid of the dirt as well as my initial doubts about pure water cleaning.

One of my most unusual cleaning jobs was …

... a really extensive building cleaning that took almost two days. Together with my brother – who is also a professional cleaning specialist – I started at 7 am on a Saturday. While I was cleaning the exterior of the building with pure water, my brother was working inside with a traditional washer and window squeegee. We finished at around midnight on Sunday.

I have always wanted to tell UNGER …

... that I was also born in 1964. Could that be a sign? In my opinion, UNGER tools are the best there are. They are high quality, long-lasting, versatile and enable fast and precise glass cleaning.
