What should you be aware of when buying cleaning equipment? Why are investments in high-grade cleaning solution worthwhile? And how does floor cleaning become more effective? Sabine R. Mück, Hygiene Consultant at HyCo Mück, has all the answers in this interview with clean magazine.

Cleaning products are a dime a dozen - especially “bargain buy” products seem attractive at first glance. What should decision makers keep in mind?

Cost is obviously a real consideration when it comes to choosing cleaning equipment. But not the central one. The most important thing: Decision makers should invest in effective systems. In the case of floor cleaning, for instance, this means going for cleaning tools that guarantees great area coverage at a low time requirement and low physical exertion. That’s what matters after all, and that’s what’s going to save cost in the long run.

How can decision makers reduce costly purchases that arise as a result of wear and tear?

High-grade products have the advantage that they consist of several components, which means that individual parts, or spare parts, can be replaced without any hassle. This makes them particularly effective and convenient. Cheaper options of lower quality usually don’t offer this advantage. They require a full exchange of the entire system.
That’s why people say: “Buying cheap means paying twice”. The strain on work equipment in cleaning is considerable - decision makers shouldn’t forget that. Quality products use higher-grade materials and are therefore more durable. This means that a greater investment is required in the beginning in order to become more cost-efficient in the long run.

What really counts when it comes to choosing cleaning tools?

Apart from considerations of cost and efficiency, one should look for easy to use work equipment. There use should be easy and intuitive. However, it is equally important that the cleaning system is well suited to the area of deployment.

What should decision makers particularly invest in when it’s all about effective floor cleaning?

They should invest in modern floor cleaning systems with ergonomic handle areas and adjustable height, as is the case, for instance, in the erGO! clean floor cleaning system from UNGER. Such systems really make effective work with minimum fatigue possible. Thus the disposal of mop covers, for example, can be carried out easily and without having to bend over all the time. Another advantage: the detergent can be dispensed safely and efficiently at the push of a button, according to each situation.

The most common sources of error when working with pure water

It is a fact: the use of pure water has revolutionized window cleaning and brings about significant time and cost savings – at least when used correctly.
